cPanel's New Meridian Theme: What's Changed and Should You Switch?

What Meridian Is

Meridian is cPanelA popular web-hosting control panel for managing sites, email, databases, and files through the browser.'s newer interface theme, and it takes a different approach to organizing your hosting account than the classic Jupiter theme most cPanel users are used to. Jupiter groups tools by category (Files, Domains, Databases, Email, and so on). Meridian instead groups tools around goals: what you're actually trying to accomplish, like managing your website or securing your account.

Every Register.rw cPanel hosting account can now switch between the two themes, so this is a good time to understand what's actually different and whether switching is worth it for you.

The Six Hubs

Instead of a menu of categories, Meridian organizes everything into six purpose-built hubs:

• Websites: domains, SSLThe certificate technology behind HTTPS. Modern 'SSL' is really TLS, but the name stuck. certificates, DNSThe Domain Name System — the internet's directory that translates domain names into the IP addresses of servers., backups, and the website builder, all in one place.
• Email: email accounts, forwarders, and filters.
• Files: file management and FTP access.
• Databases: MySQL and MariaDB databases and database users.
• Security: SSL certificates, IP blocking, and other account protections.
• Performance: resource usage and site performance monitoring.

The idea is fewer clicks between "I want to do X" and actually doing it. If you already know cPanel's tool names from Jupiter, most of them still exist here; they're just filed under a hub instead of a category. The Meridian Dashboard

Rather than a static home page, Meridian's Dashboard highlights what's relevant to your account right now. It can surface:

• Action Required items, like an expiring SSL certificate or an unresolved warning.
• Suggested next actions, contextual recommendations based on your account's activity.
• An account overview summarizing key details and resource usage.

It's meant to answer "what needs my attention?" the moment you log in, instead of making you go looking for it.

The Command Palette

One of the more genuinely useful additions in Meridian is the Command Palette, a search box that jumps you straight to any feature or workflow from anywhere in the interface. To open it:

• Click the Search box, or
• Press Cmd+K (macOS) or Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux), or
• Type / anywhere in the interface.

Start typing a feature or setting's name and select it from the results. It's the fastest way to get somewhere specific without hunting through hubs, especially once you already know what you're looking for by name.

Guided Setup

Meridian includes a Guided Setup flow that walks you through configuring your domain, website, and email together, rather than as separate steps. You choose how to build your site: options can include a drag-and-drop builder, WordPress, AI-assisted site generation, or uploading your own custom code. Which options actually appear depends on your hosting plan, so don't be surprised if your account shows a subset rather than the full list. You can re-run Guided Setup at any time from the Dashboard.

Switching Between Meridian and Jupiter

Since every Register.rw account can use either theme, switching is entirely your call:

• From Meridian, select Classic cPanel Theme in the header to switch to Jupiter.
• From either theme, open Account Preferences and choose the theme you want directly.

There's no downside to trying Meridian and switching back if it's not for you. Nothing about your files, domains, email, or databases changes when you switch, only how the interface is arranged.

Which Should You Use?

Neither theme is more "correct," they're two arrangements of the same underlying tools:

• Consider Meridian if you're new to cPanel, prefer finding tools by what you're trying to accomplish, or want the Command Palette and Dashboard's suggested actions.
• Stick with Jupiter if you already know its category layout and don't want to relearn where things live.
