Why do these comparisons use renewal prices instead of the advertised price?

Most international hosts advertise a steep first-term discount that only applies to new customers on a long prepaid term. The renewal price, what you actually pay every cycle after that, is the number that matters for budgeting a website long-term.

Does Register.rw increase its prices after the first year?

No. The prices on our pricing page are the same prices you renew at. There is no separate, lower first-term rate.

Do I have to prepay multiple years to get Register.rw's listed price?

No. Register.rw bills annually with no multi-year commitment required to get the listed rate. Some competitors' cheapest renewal rates require prepaying three years upfront.

How accurate are the competitor prices in this comparison?

Bluehost's and Namecheap's figures were pulled directly from their own pricing page and knowledge base. HostGator's, GoDaddy's, and A2 Hosting's own pricing pages render prices dynamically and block automated access, so those figures come from independent pricing-tracker sites, cross-checked across multiple sources. The First-Term Price Isn't the Real Price

Search "cheap web hosting" and you'll see prices like $1.99 or $2.99 a month. Almost none of that is what you'll actually pay past your first billing cycle. Shared hosting providers commonly discount the first term steeply for new customers, then renew at two, three, or more times that rate, often requiring you to prepay a full year or three years upfront to unlock the advertised number in the first place.

Register.rw doesn't do this. The price on our pricing page and hosting page is the renewal price. There's no separate introductory rate that jumps later.

All prices below are each provider's lowest-tier shared hosting plan, at renewal, not the first-term promotional rate, and all are shown per year so they compare directly. Providers that advertise a monthly rate are shown at that rate times 12. RWF figures are converted at approximately 1,467 RWF per USD (the mid-market rate as of 16 September 2026); the exact rate moves daily, so treat the RWF column as an approximation, not a live quote.

Register.rw's Starter plan renews at 40,000 RWF a year: about half the yearly cost of the next-cheapest option, Namecheap, and less than a quarter of Bluehost's, HostGator's, GoDaddy's, or A2 Hosting's, with no requirement to prepay multiple years to get that rate. Even our top-tier Premium plan, at 139,000 RWF a year, still costs less per year than Bluehost's, HostGator's, GoDaddy's, and A2 Hosting's cheapest renewal rates.

Why the Gap Is So Large

A few things compound to make international renewal rates so much higher than the advertised price:

Long prepaid terms. Bluehost's and HostGator's cheapest renewal rates above only apply if you commit to and pay for three years at once, which is about $360 for Bluehost and $396 for HostGator upfront. Paying year to year costs more.
Currency and market positioning. These are US-market hosts pricing in dollars for a global audience; Register.rw prices in RWF for the Rwandan market specifically.
Bundled upsells. Many of these plans nudge you toward add-ons (backups, extra security, site migration) that push the effective price higher than even the renewal rate shown.
